On 29th of March, Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA) organised an expert discussion „Future digital jobs and career opportunities in ICT for women” within the Women4IT project
The discussion gathered together various high-level experts from different stakeholder institutions like the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, University of Latvia, Latvian Internet Association, Employment Agency, Riga Tech girls and other specialists from industry, public sector and associations, to discuss the modern usage of digital technologies, what future digital skills we will need in 5 years and also how to promote and encourage women’s involvement in the ICT sector and in digital jobs. During the discussion, LIKTA presented the results from the employer survey done in March “Requirements skills for future digital job profiles”.
Experts agreed that in today’s society it is important to talk about equal opportunities for both males and females and looking at the current gap of women’s participation in the ICT sector, corrective measures should be taken to encourage young females to choose their potential careers and work paths in ICT and digital jobs. Future employment will not exist without digital skills and it is important to talk and take actions now.
Invited experts acknowledged the Women4IT project and the possibilities it will provide to young females in Latvia. Experts expressed interest to further follow up the development of the project. The discussion gave valuable opinions and inputs from the stakeholders in Latvia.
